Remy Stroomer is born on October 9, 1979 in Haarlem. At the age of nine he takes keyboard lessons and his first compositions are created. He first appears on stage in 1994. In the beginning as a solo artist, but not much later also with other bands and musicians in various genres, such as electronica, jazz, rock and symphonic / progressive rock. Despite Remy completely follows his own musical path, Klaus Schulze (especially his period of the late 80s / early 90s) is frequently mentioned in comparison to his early musical style.
In 1999, after completing secondary school, Remy starts studying sonology at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague. In the same year, Remy releases his first album “Exhibition of Dreams” on AKH Records, the label he runs from that moment on together with Ewout Koek. “The Art of Imagination” appears a little less than a year later on Groove Unlimited. With this album, Remy wins a prize in the category ‘Best Newcomer Electronic Music’ at the prestigious German Schwingungen Festival 2001, presented by Winfried Trenkler.
In the following years, Remy releases several albums and performs in the Netherlands, Germany and England. Between 2007 and 2010 he gives a number of performances in the Grote or St. Bavokerk in Haarlem. In 2012 and 2022, Remy and Ron Boots again organize concert evenings on a larger scale at the same location. Remy has also been on stage several times over the years during the E-Day and E-Live Festivals (at various locations in and around Eindhoven); during the 2008 edition as a support act for Tangerine Dream’s Edgar Froese. He also performs at the Patronaat (Haarlem), Rathaus Schöneberg (Berlin, Germany), Awakenings (England), Zeiss Planetarium Bochum (Germany), Theater de Wegwijzer (Nieuw- en St. Joosland), De Pletterij (Haarlem), and the ruins of Brederode (Santpoort-Zuid).
The studio album “i-Dentity” from 2011 coincides with a performance during the E-Day Festival in Oirschot. The CD marks the establishment of Remy’s Deserted Island Music label, which releases his recent albums.
Remy has collaborated with a large number of musicians, including Ron Boots, Eric van der Heijden, Harold van der Heijden, Bill Fox, Gert Emmens, Eric Wøllo, Francis Rimbert, Synth.nl, Thomas Betzler, Moonbooter, My Breath My Music, Wolfram Spyra, Mario Schönwälder, Bas Broekhuis, David Wright and Space Art.
After a short-lived adventure with the formation Free Arts Lab (2014-2015), members Petter Janse and Remy continue in 2016 as improvisation duo Mäläskä. Soon other musicians are involved from time to time, and they give performances in own country and abroad. Their output is completely unprepared and without prior appointments.
Remy’s most recent studio album “The Other Side” dates from 2020. “The Other Side: Lost in Reality” continues the concept of this album with the registration of the 2022 Grote of St.Bavokerk concert. This new music merges electronics with a ten-piece choir.
Subsequently, Remy’s Deserted Island Music label is enriched with new album releases from Mäläska, Däcker, Space Art, Feralia Planitia, Basic Principles and Martijn Comes.
